I just think the whole concept of the gumball was asking for another more seroius accident than we have had before...... I mean, young rich guys in fast cars (that they are going to drive fast) on shitty dirt roads!? I'm sorry you'd think the guys driving would take this into account......as well as the organisers. I love the gumball as much as anyone, but i'm afraid its going to have to change sadly, before anyone else dies......

Agreed. And Gumball is at fault for allowing these speed freaks into the rally, knowing from all the video produced in past years that they will continue to break the law for fun. Even if teams such as Team Polizei are gracious in their support efforts of the victims family, they still go into the event planning to speed and outrun cops. If the Gumball is to be taken seriously as a rally, these people must not be allowed to enter. It's sobering truth, even if we don't want to hear it.

I agree with Jeff. There are tons of rallys happening all over the place - Gumball, Carbon Black, Scumball, Modball etc etc etc - ANY event which involves CARS and MEN together is going to be a liability. Fact - when men get together in cars (happening all over the world, every day) accidents will definately happen. Men love cars, love driving them fast, love showing off, love racing - and men love watching that - especially the crashes!
The idea that Gumball is more dangerous that any other rally is wrong - the Scumball is about driving cheap cars - what if you killed someone when your car fell to bits because it was a piece of shit. Then everyone would say 'what a stupid idea - cheap cars!'
This could have happened in any organised rally at any time because men worldwide cant help themselves behind the wheel of any car.
Even if the majority on any event are well behaved you are always going to get a few assholes - and people determined to be first - even if its not a race.

It is pretty sad what happened, I have been waiting to see those supercars in Bratislava, but... at least some of them arrived. Funny thing is how many people were waiting without knowing what has happened, there was no one to tell them. Richie arrived in his brutal Bentley GT and said, where is the fu****g music, because there was no music playing at 11PM on the place, people left after staying long hours and just some real fans were waiting for nothing. Some of them took day off to see the show, but there was nothing. Too sad, but I understand that it would not be appropriate to continue the rally. In my opinion it was just a matter of time until such accident would occure, driving 3000 miles is not as funny and pushing it too hard can be deadly, not just for drivers as we have heard.
Ok, I hope that the Gumball 10 would be without such accidents, and if they would go again through Bratislava or near by, I would be happy

@ Joe:
New topic is created:
http://www.gumball3000blog.com/2007/05/04/gumball-2007-second-victim-of-the-gumball-crash/

Also Metacafe closed his doors for Gumball 3000 video submitters:

Because of terribly unfortunate events involving a fatal accident, this year’s Gumball 3000 Rally has been cancelled. In sympathy with the victims and their families, Metacafe has decided to close this contest and online celebration. Although we will not be accepting additional submissions, we will send out wristbands for items already submitted.

This was bound to happen sooner or later. Many Gumball participants have been involved in serious accidents, and it was only a matter of time before an innocent member of the public was hurt or, as in this case, killed.

The event is a good idea, but there is no safety aspect in the organisation whatsoever. The speeding and reckless driving is bordering on the insane and unfortunately two innocent people's lives have been claimed.

Shut the fucking thing down for good. Maximillion Cooper should be held responsible for the complete lack of safety and blatant disregard of the law.

I wonder if the fuckwit who was driving the Porsche had to submit to a roadside alcohol test? Considering the late night driving and early starts, I wouldn't be at all surprised if he wasn't over the limit as well...
